Prior Park English House Nominated Charity 2011

Refuge Nepal was chosen by English House, Prior Park College in Bath, as one of their nominated charities for 2011.   Colette Byron, head of English House handed over a cheque for £2000 to RefugeNepal, which had been raised mainly at a charity promises auction.   Thank you very much to all the girls and staff of English House - this is a massive contribution to the charity!

Offering Hope in the slums of Nepal Minimize

Poor and abandoned women and girls are living in desperate situations in Nepal which is one of the poorest countries in the world.  They are often vulnerable to abuse, child prostitution, trafficking, homelessnes and HIV.

Refuge Nepal works with a well established Nepalese organisation that has been established since 2000 in Pokhara, Nepal.  It is run entirely by Nepalese women who have a wide range of skills.  These inclue social work, teaching and nursing.  They understand the local issues and are embedded in the local community, so are best placed to make decisions about these vulnerable young girls and women.  Refuge Nepal is run by a small team of volunteers based in Bristol and Bath in the UK.  All the money raised by Refuge Nepal in the UK goes directly to the women in Nepal.

Lighthouse Support centre - funded by Refuge Nepal in the UK Minimize

Refuge Nepal is now fund-raising for a support centre in the poorest part of Pokhara (the second city of Nepal) known locally as the 'Bus-Park slum'.

The girls and women who live in the slum have now begun to use the support centre for :

  • First Aid
  • Healthcare awareness including HIV-Aids
  • Medicines
  • Counselling for sufferers of abuse
  • Legal advice on rights
  • Education workshops (mainly basic literacy)

Young girls and women in the urban areas of Nepal are some of the most deprived women in the world.  They are often abused and are vulnerable to child prostitution, trafficking, enslavement and homelessness.

The support centre, which was established in July 2007 by an organisation run by local women, offers hope (regardless of race or religion) in the shape of medical advice, medicines, legal rights, counselling and literacy workshops.  Please support these women by donating money to Refuge Nepal.

Thank you and (as the women would say in Nepal) - NAMASTE!!

 Fund-Raising Minimize

Refuge Nepal have committed to funding the entire cost of the "Lighthouse" support centre in the 'Bus Park' slum from donors in the UK, and therefore need to raise a considerable amount of money this year.
